Dr. Lo studies the approaches to enhance the ecological values of artificial coastal structures. He focused predominantly on the effectiveness of ecological enhancement of seawalls on a large scale, including the size of eco-engineered features and trial sites for implementation. The findings of his research can directly contribute to biodiversity and ecosystem services of the artificial shorelines to promote sustainability of coastal cities.

Other than studying the different features adopted for seawall’s ecological enhancement, he has also participated in studying and developing a new concrete mix using waste material, which provides economic and environmental advantages.
